Omaha, Nebraska-based composer Matt Walker is passionate about telling stories through music. As both creator and performer, his work has been featured in a multitude of projects for both the stage and screen over the past two decades. He is adept at working on a creative team, prides himself on meticulous attention to detail, and always aims to provide the most appropriate musical solution for the project at hand.
A highly devoted student and eager learner, Walker is currently studying composition and orchestration for film with Berklee College of Music. With a proficiency in writing for a variety of dramatic scenarios, his melodically-driven scores and affinity for dynamic textures evoke a wide spectrum of emotions.
Matt has performed his original compositions at the Omaha Under The Radar festival (2020) and TEDxOmaha event, Time To Engage (2018). He has provided music for numerous short films by directors Christine Burright, Paul Christian Glenn, and Kate Brewer, with feature film credits including The Headliner, a comedy by Tony Bonacci, and The RoseMan of Omaha, a documentary by David Weiss. A strong believer in the power of collaboration between artistic disciplines, he has also received commissions for original works from modern dance ensembles Tbd. Dance Collective and Vōx Dance Collective. Fusing his love for music with important world issues, Matt wrote the score for Call in the Creche, Tim Guthrie’s award-winning documentary highlighting wildlife conservation efforts in New Zealand. In partnership with NEW Multimedia and the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, he is currently working on the documentary Big Medicine: York Outdoors, a subset of a larger effort to honor York’s legacy as an essential member of the Corps of Discovery.
